Licenced Clergy and employed licenced lay ministers are required to undertake a minimum of six sessions of supervision each year.
The Diocesan Council-approved policy and documents canbe found on the Diocesan website in the ‘Policies’ section.
The Licensing Policy has been revised in the light of the Supervision Policy.
Please ensure that you are familiar with the requirements of the Policy, which will become mandatory in 2023. Consistent with Safe Ministry Clearance practice, your licence may be suspended by the Archbishop if you do not complete the required supervision each year.
Licenced Clergy and Licenced Lay employed ministers are responsible for finding and contracting with an appropriate supervisor, who must be approved by the Archbishop.
To assist you, here is a list of currently approved Supervisors for the Diocese.

Why Supervision?
As part of our responding to recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and as part of our fulfilling the goals of Vision 2022 around leader well-being, Diocesan Council in November 2021 adopted the Clergy and Lay Ministers’ Professional Supervision Policy.
This policy mandates a program of professional supervision for all licensed clergy and licensed lay ministers in the Anglican Diocese of Adelaide.
Professional supervision, which is sometimes also called pastoral supervision, is an important means of self-care and reflection that has served professional persons involved in the ‘helping’ and ‘caring’ professions for many years, and which is now becoming normal in many denominations for both ordained and lay ministers of the Christian Church.
Pastoral supervision is an agreed, regular, planned, and boundaried space, in which a practitioner skilled in supervision (the supervisor) meets with one or more other practitioners (the supervisee/s) to look together at the supervisee/s’ practice of ministry in a self-reflective and formative way. It is different from and in addition to spiritual supervisors / guidance and different from mentoring or even executive coaching.
The overarching intention is that pastoral supervision provides a supportive, reflective and educative space to facilitate the professional growth and development of the supervisee as a person in ministry, so as to enhance their faithfulness and effectiveness in ministry.
